Our aspirations for music:

At St Peter’s Catholic Primary School music is very much part of our community. We value music as a creative and varied art form giving pupils of all abilities an equal opportunity to achieve. The children are taught to listen to appreciate and understand a wide range of musical styles. They are given opportunities to improvise and compose music. Every child is given the sustained opportunity to learn an instrument. They are taught to use and understand music notation and given opportunities to play and perform confidently with increasing fluency and expression. As a Catholic school, hymns and music to aid prayer and spiritual meditation are a vital part of our identity and pupils come to understand and appreciate this important tradition of engaging with music on a regular basis.
