Our aspirations for early readers:

We believe that reading is one of the most important things a child will ever learn as it underpins everything else. We aim to inspire a passion for reading where children see books and reading as a pleasure. Teaching should equip pupils with an ability to confidently decode words using phonic strategies, answer questions about books they have read and show an understanding of texts. This curriculum is delivered through synthetic phonics using the RWI scheme, a linked approach to shared reading, guided reading, whole class reading, home reading and reading across the wider curriculum.  There are regular opportunities for independent reading and hearing quality texts read aloud every day.
